Welcome to the Durham FM Association

The Durham FM Association is a group of friendly amateur radio operators interested in all aspects of amateur radio service. Members in Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and surrounding areas of North Carolina enjoy operating through VHF and UHF repeaters sponsored and maintained by the club.

Currently the club operates FM voice repeaters on 145.450-, 147.225+, 224.260-, 444.100+ and 444.450+ mhz(the plus and minus indicating standard offsets on the respective bands).

We meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month (see Calendar) with Dinner (optional) at 6:00pm and the business meeting and program at 7:00pm.  We currently meet in the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant on 3742 Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham. [click for map]

Our club runs a great hamfest toward the end of May each year. The DurHamFest was held in the Little River Community Complex the last two last year and is expected to be there again in 2009.  Dealers sell new and used equipment, books, and parts. "Tailgaters" also offer much used equipment. Besides the buying, selling, and trading, door prizes and fellowship with old and new friends make this a real fun event.

This web page is a work in progress.  Please give us feedback at the meeting telling us what you do and don't like on this web site.  Thanks!

July 1st Meeting:Smart Home
Written by Dee Ramm
Wednesday, 18 June 2008

Tom Rose , Director of Duke's Smart Home will be talking about the Duke Smart Home Program and its live-in laboratory: The Home Depot Smart Home.

Their web page reports: "The Home Depot Smart Home is a 6,000 square foot live-in research laboratory operated by Duke's Pratt School of Engineering. The Home Depot Smart Home, part of a Duke Smart Home Program, creates a dynamic "living laboratory" environment that contributes to the innovation and demonstration of future residential building technology. The central concept of this project is our belief that smart homes can improve that quality of life for people of all ages and incomes."

"The Home Depot Smart Home provides students at Duke's Pratt School of Engineering, Trinity School of Arts and Sciences and Nicholas School for the Environment and Earth Sciences with an opportunity for practical hands- on engineering outside of the classroom in a living and learning community. In addition, we are partnering with industry to strengthen the residential market for integrated technology, and helping homeowners make their own ideas for smart homes a reality. "
