Welcome to the Durham FM Association

The Durham FM Association is a group of friendly amateur radio operators interested in all aspects of amateur radio service. Members in Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and surrounding areas of North Carolina enjoy operating through VHF and UHF repeaters sponsored and maintained by the club.

Currently the club operates FM voice repeaters on 145.450-, 147.225+, 224.260-, 444.100+ and 444.450+ mhz(the plus and minus indicating standard offsets on the respective bands).

We meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month (see Calendar) with Dinner (optional) at 6:00pm and the business meeting and program at 7:00pm.  We currently meet in the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant on 3742 Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham. [click for map]

Our club runs a great hamfest toward the end of May each year. The DurHamFest was held in the Little River Community Complex the last two last year and is expected to be there again in 2009.  Dealers sell new and used equipment, books, and parts. "Tailgaters" also offer much used equipment. Besides the buying, selling, and trading, door prizes and fellowship with old and new friends make this a real fun event.

This web page is a work in progress.  Please give us feedback at the meeting telling us what you do and don't like on this web site.  Thanks!

Bahama Christmas Parade
Written by Dee Ramm
Saturday, 22 November 2008

At the last Board meeting we decided to participate in the Bahama Christmas Parade.  It is a good way for our Club and ham radio to get some important publicity.  We are now registered to take part.  However, we still need volunteers to ride/walk with the MCU, and to join in the festivities.

The Bahama Christmas Parade is on Saturday, December 13th this year at 10:00am -- line-up will be at 9:00am.

(Rain-date, Sunday, Dec 14, 2:00pm).

If you would like to join us, please send me email ASAP.  I will send you details.  Wilson, W4BOH, has agreed to bring the MCU.

So, let me know... ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it )

Dec 2nd Meeting: Holiday Dinner
Written by Dee Ramm
Thursday, 06 November 2008

Continuing a tradition of having the DFMA pick up the tab for our December Holiday Dinner Meeting, we will meet at Bullock's Barbecue Restaurant in Durham (in the "solarium") starting at 6:00pm. You will be able to order from the menu.  (In the past few years we have had the meal catered, but the meeting site at the McMannen Methodist Church was not available this year.)

This is our Holiday Meeting! In that tradition you may (optionally):
* Bring a Christmas gift for a child to be distributed to Durham's needy. If wrapped, mark gender and age range on the outside. (Last year DSS expressed a preference for not having the gifts wrapped -- a gift bag would work, though.)

* The Club will make its annual gift to the Durham Rescue Mission. We will be passing the "hat" for additional personal contributions to that cause.

Emergency Medical Communications, Past-Present-Future Durham NC

Randy McCray, KE4UCM, will be talking about the role of communications in supporting emergency response efforts.

Randy is active in the Parkwood Fire Department and was instrumental in Parkwood's providing us a space to house the MCU at one of their stations. Randy is a long-time member of the DFMA and has worked hard to raise funds for and support the MCU effort.
